Between 1990 and 1992 there were 112 massacres in the Transvaal (now Gauteng) - referred to as the "Reef township war".
In the Vaal, these were:
- the Sebokeng massacre, 22 July 1990, 27 people killed;

the Sebokeng Funeral Vigil attack, 12 January 1991, 13 people killed;

the Gobizitwna Beer Hall attack, Sebokeng, 23 May 1991, 13 people killed;

the Boipatong massacre, Vaal, 17 June 1992, 40 people killed.
