1 Boipatong : The Place of Hiding
A township near Vanderbijlpark in Gauteng, close to the Vaal River that demarcates the boundary between Gauteng Province & the Free State.
Established in 1955 (five years before the Sharpeville Massacre) to house workers for industries in the Vaal Triangle and in particular for ISCOR (now Arcelor Mittal).
ISCOR was built to create jobs and to assist in poverty eradication for the white working class.
The Vaal region was the epicentre of 1960s anger against the carrying of passes.
